Teeth Whitening
As we age, our teeth naturally change colour, and other factors such as our diet and lifestyle can also affect the appearance of our teeth. Dark-coloured foods and drinks like coffee, tea, red wine, balsamic vinegar, and berries can all contribute to staining. Additionally, certain prescribed medications or antibiotics can cause teeth to become discoloured, and habits such as smoking can also have a negative impact on the colour of your teeth. Tartar buildup on teeth can also lead to a yellowish appearance.
If you have an important event coming up, such as a wedding or holiday, or you simply want to boost your confidence with a brighter smile, teeth whitening may be the solution you’re looking for. We offer safe and effective teeth-whitening treatments that can help you achieve the dazzling smile you desire.
Modern home-based teeth-whitening kits are based on either hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide gel, which are both safe to use and produce excellent results. Be wary of whitening kits sold online, especially the ones that are offered by merchants from outside of the UK, as they may include untested or potentially harmful substances.
At Inverurie Smile Care, we offer dentist-approved professional home-based kits that are safe to use. It’s important for a dentist to first examine you at your consultation, assess your suitability, and, upon satisfactory consultation, outline everything about the treatment so that you are properly informed about it. Based on the condition of your teeth and your dental history, your dentist would be able to recommend the appropriate whitening kit. The dentist will be the final arbiter of acceptance for teeth whitening.
Did you know that some of the whitening products from popular brands sold in the US are not approved for sale in the UK as they contain well over the legal limit of hydrogen peroxide here?

Disclaimer
Teeth whitening can lighten the shade of your natural teeth, but before you commit to having treatment, it’s important that you’re fully aware of what to expect, what the risks are, and who is allowed to carry it out. Only customers over 18 years old are eligible to start the tooth whitening treatment.
Our practice abides by the General Dental Council’s (GDC) legal position on how tooth whitening can only safely be administered by registered dental professionals, and we advise you to read their leaflet(s) or tooth whitening information on what to expect on GDCs website.
Furthermore, we abide by the GDC’s advertising standards by making you aware that the treatment advertised may not be appropriate for every patient and that it is conditional on a satisfactory assessment being carried out. You will also need to have any tooth decay, gum disease, or any other required treatment completed before commencing whitening, and there may be some occasions when the dentists at our practice don’t advice against teeth whitening. We must also assess every patient, obtain appropriate consent, obtain a medical history, and explain all the options before carrying out any work.
